Hello there, world of WordPress. Welcome to my blog. My name is Lee, and this is my attempt at getting my fiction out there for all to read. I’m not going to lie, I’m a little nervous, but let’s see how this goes. I have been writing for a few years now, in secret, too afraid to let people read my work. I believe that this is a common problem among writers, but I feel that it is time to at least try to make something out of the thing that I love to do. Now I may not be the best writer in the world, but I am learning and trying to improve.

I am relatively new to WordPress, and I’m sure that I have much to learn. If anyone has any tips or tricks that they wish to share with me, I would be very grateful.

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” – H. P. Lovecraft

I think that’s enough of the boring stuff, let me share with you a bit more about my writing. My main influences for writing are H. P. Lovecraft, J. R. Tolkien, H. G. Wells and Brent Weeks. There are of course many more, but I feel that these are from which I draw my writing style. As for my favourite books, The Lord of the Rings and The Night Angel trilogies are certainly in there, along with short stories such as The War of the Worlds and The Call of Cthulu. I think that it’s fair to say that I am a huge fan of fantasy and horror, and with both, the stranger that they are, the better.

I am currently working on several projects, here’s some of them:

Short stories for here– I am working on short stories especially for my WordPress, to show you what I can do, entertain you and hopefully get some helpful feedback.

Short stories for competitions– I have recently started reading the Writing Magazine. It’s a great read, full of inspiring articles and tips, but most importantly, competitions. I’m aiming to enter at least one competition per month.

A Novella– I’m working on a Novella entitled The Dream Blade. It’s a fantasy/horror set in the modern world. It’s full of monsters, alternate dimensions and swords. You know, all the cool stuff. Every time that I finish a chapter, I will be giving you a little teaser from it.

A Novel– My novel doesn’t just yet have a title and is mainly just a collection of ideas. I will keep you updated with any progress that I make.

Here’s a short piece that I wrote especially for this post, entitled Into the Unknown:

Novus stood at the edge of the world, staring into the void below. A warm breeze gently kissed his heavily scarred face. He pondered at the vast darkness, wondering at the many secrets that it could hold. A battle raged behind him, the clash of steel on steel, the metallic scent of blood, the bellows and cries, it all assaulted his senses. Novus had a choice, go into the unknown or fight the battle that was all too familiar to him. A single tear graced his cheek, the fall into the void would either be his undoing or his making.

Thank you for taking the time to read this little introduction. My first short story for my blog is coming very shortly. I’m going to close this off with a question for you: What or who is your main influence for writing?
